Welcome to Noble Knoll, where we love to produce good writing and help support young writers! Tell us a bit about yourself!
Hello!! Thank you so much for having me here. I’m Bella Raine, a teenage Christian gal who loves reading, writing, arts and crafts, and… kombucha! 😉
What first inspired you to write?
Ooo, I’m not sure if there was anything that particularly inspired me to write. I think writing has just always been a part of me, and– like reading– something the Lord just made a part of me. But as for currently, C.S. Lewis and my mom are big inspirations for me!
Why do you love writing?
I love writing, because there is power in stories. Jesus spoke in stories because He knew the power they held to stand up against nations and kingdoms, uproot and tear-down, destroy and overthrow, build up, and plant (Jeremiah 1:10) and that is exactly what I want my words to do. Stand up boldly within an ugly world.
What do you think is the most challenging part of writing?
Doing it! Okay not really…. I think that for me personally getting the right amount of words out is hard. I’m a big under-writer so writing full length fiction and elongating my stories is something that I’m actively working on!
What is your favorite part about writing?
I love “watching” my stories in my mind, and diving inside the world and the character’s head! And then when I can transform that “movie” of a scene that I “watched” into words, sentences, and paragraphs, there’s just a magic about it!
Tell us more about your current Work-In-Progress!
I have a few (don’t we all? ) but I primarily work on one of my three novels within a trilogy I’m writing. They are Middle Grade medieval fantasy series revolving around a hurting orphan girl’s struggle to survive. Think the allegorical elements of The Chronicles of Narnia, and the medieval setting of The Ascendance series!
What are some of your favorite writing resources?
The Young Writer’s Workshop, first of all! I’ve been a part of this vibrant community for over a year and it’s one of the most invaluable resources for young writers! Besides that, K.M. Weiland’s site Helping Writers Become Authors, and the Christian Publishing Show with Thomas Umstattd Jr. are both so helpful for me!
What is the best advice you could give to a young writer?
Okay I have two! One- write. Write. Write. And don’t stop. It’s pretty much impossible to write a whole lot and never improve! If all you can do is write a little tiny bit, do it! Just write and don’t stop! Second- never say you don’t have a story idea. There are SO many stories out in the world, and inspiration lurking around every corner. Learning to have the eyes to see the hidden stories in our culture, and cultivating a mind that is open to ideas is essential in my opinion!
How can others support you and your writing?
Head over to my blog and sign up for my email list! There I keep everyone updated about my writing, my art, what I’ve read lately, and everything in between! I’d love to have you!
